Frey Contained!

Well, here's a glance at the container for the Frey. I updated the bottle a little (centering the logo) and added the elements for the cylinder package. The idea for the outside is a weathered orange, as if the graphics were painted on and have faded and been worn away as they protected the bottle inside. The lid is held on by a strand of loose wire string.
Feedback?

Frey Wine in process

So, here is my wine bottle so far. I love the bottle I selected, but it has a continuous curve and never has a completely vertical wall, so it makes things challenging to get things totally straight or to look straight on a curve.
I designed the name/logo to offset to the right, but seeing it on the bottle I'm thinking about shifting it towards the center.
Also, in the pictures, the bottle doesn't look uniform. Odd, but I think I like it.

Frey logo concepts revealed

Though I have not intentionally been holding back, I have not put too much of my design concepts for Frey on here. Here's an older concept with the current.

Bottle Packaging/Display Case

Here is the basic design for the packaging I am doing for my wine bottle project. I am creating an acrylic cylinder display case for an individual bottle, letting the bottle be the star. I will also apply graphics to the case. The top and bottom disks of the cylinder will probably be black or brown acrylic and the cylinder is clear.

Buy Bottles

Here's the link to the site where I think I will buy a few bottles. There seem to be lots of places to buy bottles. I liked their selection. I'm sure there are more out there, but I'll start with these.

My Pick: Frey Wine

Well, after considering all my wine choices, I am choosing Frey wine. Probably one of their reds. Here's a couple of pics.

Sangiovese

This is just ornate imagery gone wild. I think the "knight" is slaying some kind of octopus-like dragon. Is the winemaker saying I'll be strong enough to kill mythical creatures?

L'Ardi

An ok design with mostly type. Could be better. You can't really tell, but the bottle widens nicely towards the shoulder. It makes you think it might be a rich "full-bodied" flavor.

La Bastarda

I found some more wine after class at an Italian market on Marietta St. Sorry, for the camera phone pix. More to come.I know some people were looking at "Fat Bastard," well I found it's Italian counterpart, "La Bastarda."

Cafe art

Some serious skill and artistry in illustrating mochas and lattes. My favorite substrate.

Type Wall

Went to a show last night at the Tabernacle and the headlining band ("Crowded House", don't laugh) had a backdrop of a collage of newspaper clippings that was about 30' wide x 25' tall. It looked really awesome. I love to see type and type compositions all mixed up and enlarged to massive scale. The music was good, but a bit dated. I really went to see the opening act, Pete Yorn. His band was pretty good. Anyway, I was inspired and am looking for any reason to put enlarged type on a huge space.

Here's a pic I found from one of their other recent shows. It's not great, but it shows a bit of the backdrop.

Grid Book

This is a book I got recently. I am just getting into it, but am interested in focusing on working with a grid more consistently for better composition.

Texture and time

This is an image I took from my hotel in Guatemala City in early August. I really enjoy the texture. It's both vibrant and decaying.

adhesive 1

typography: 26 letters, millions of combinations, expressions, gestures, inflections. millions of ways to make them look horrid, repulsive and dull. here's to making them make sense. making them stick in the viewers mind and comprehend your message.
